HUNT CLUB COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION NEWSLETTER
September 8th, 1998
On June 3rd, Council approved the long overdue construction of a new sidewalk along the west side of McCarthy Road from just south of Southmore to just north of Plante Drive. The construction is expected to begin mid-September; staff have targeted the first week of October for completion of the work, well in advance of snow and ice. Much thanks to the efforts of residents who wrote or phoned to alert me to this dangerous roadway.
Property Assessment Appeal Deadline
Anyone wishing to file an appeal must do so by October 30, 1998. Blank forms may be obtained from the Client Services Centre or the Tax Office at City Hall. Informal discussions with an Assessment Officer are advisable, prior to filing an appeal, as adjustments to your assessment may be made in certain circumstances.
Third Set of Open Houses - Revitalization of Lansdowne Park
In keeping with the public consultation process, the following dates have been selected for the third set of open houses:
Leisure, Arts and Heritage Programs and Facilities Study Meetings
The City’s Department of Community Services will be holding open houses on Phase II of the Leisure, Arts and Heritage Programs and Facilities Study. The object of these consultations is to elicit discussion on the projected effect of established trends and changing demographics on the department’s services. The City’s future direction in the provision and distribution of facilities and the delivery of leisure, heritage and arts programs will also be targeted for consideration. Phase II of the study addresses the issues of equity, cost effectiveness, quality of service, and potential partnerships. The open houses will be held between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.; the dates and locations are listed below:
The final report on public consultations on the future of the Farm is now available. You may call (613) 759-6632 for a copy. Despite persistent concern that the Farm will be developed, I am encouraged by the consultation process to date. Indeed we have Minister Lyle Vanclief’s assurances that the CEF lands will remain in public ownership and federal heritage-designated buildings will be maintained. Thanks to those who have contributed ideas.
Committee of Adjustment Hearing
The owners of the property at 121 Owl Drive have obtained a building permit for renovations to their single family dwelling. The intended improvements include the construction of a larger garage with a second floor addition above. The applicants have indicated that the desired installation of a spa on the second floor would mean that their easterly side yard would no longer exist in conformity with City of Ottawa regulations. The Authority of the Committee is required to permit the inclusion of the spa. The hearing for this application will be held on September 17th, 1998 starting at 2:30 p.m. at Ottawa City Hall.
Congratulations to Cognos, Paul Greer and City Staff
Cognos has recently adopted Carleton Heights Park through the City’s Adopt-A-Park Program. Mr. Paul Greer, president of the Carleton Heights and Area Residents’ Association, deserves thanks for his support of this partnership. Hats off to Cognos, once more!
As some of you may already be aware, Turpin Saturn Saab Isuzu, Saturn Saab Isuzu 417 and the City of Ottawa have jointly undertaken a project to construct a playground structure at Mooney’s Bay park. On Saturday, September 12th, Saturn retailers’ staff and a few of their customers will be building the playground structure. They expect to celebrate its completion on Sunday, September 13th. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to both Turpin Saturn Saab Isuzu and Saturn Saab Isuzu 417 for their contribution that will serve many area residents.
