Meeting Minutes

Christine Johnson: 19,000 people are expected to be residing within our boundaries
soon. Christine has set a minimum goal of 190 paid up members by the end of 2026,
to represent at least 10% of our population, lending relevance to our association.

A membership captain for each of the four areas within our boundaries would be
helpful for this goal. Members will get a 20% discount on all levels of membership with
the City’s Recreation.

Motion: Christine Johnson purchase a retractable banner to put up at events. Moved
by Christine Johnson, seconded by Dong Ngo, carried.

Riley Brockington gave his report.

Dredging of the Sawmill Creek settling ponds will continue. There are lots of collisions
at the Hunt Club/ Riverside intersection. Taggart has proposed development of its
property at the intersection. The development will include a longer turning lane onto
Hunt Club Road. There are seven projects to improve/maintain the water mains in
River Ward. Carleton Heights is a Community in River Ward. It experiences significant
growth. The Carleton Heights Master Plan will be presented on January 22 between
6:00 and 9:00 PM. Alto is the proposed high-speed rail line between Ottawa and
Montreal.

Councillor Riley Brockington was present. Also Andrei Grushman from the HCCA and
Dave Coyle from the Riverside Park Community Association. Councillor Brockington
made a motion to rezone the Southern Corridor. The spirit of the motion was to keep
the existing protections for green space. The motion passed. Councillor Brockington
suggested that we write letters to our MP David McGuinty to support protection of the
Southern Corridor.

Christine Johnson: The HCCA should prepare a letter to MP David McGuinty. The
letter would ask David McGuinty to ask the NCC to remove its request that the
Southern Corridor be zoned as Development Reserve.

Motion: To support Riley Brockington’s position at the Joint Committee. Moved by
Andrei Grushman, seconded by Peter Brimacombe, carried.

Andrei Grushman: FCA is the Federation of Citizens’ Associations of Ottawa.

Motion: To renew our membership in the FCA. Cost is $40. Moved by Andrei
Grushman, seconded by Peter Brimacombe, carried.
