5. Operations/Governance

a. HCCA 2021 Board Elections

Election process is managed by our past president, Christine Johnson. Looking to find people from all sectors of our Hunt Club community to step up as president or a director.

  • Let Christine know if you plan to stand as a director, or step down
  • Brian Wade will be stepping down as president next year, but will help as Past-President.
  • Each director to find one person to come forth and apply for the board of directors

6. City Services

a. 400 Hunt Club Update

Otto’s BWM has postponed their plan, and could come back with a revised plan. There has been a large grassroots group “Save Hunt Club Forest” that has done a lot of great work. Riley has worked hard with Otto’s and the Ottawa International Airport Authority.

b. City of Ottawa Official Master Plan Update

The New Official Plan revised version has been released. Sept 29th: public open house.
Oct 14: Joint committee meeting. Groups can present their comments. Oct 27: Final plan is going to council for approval. Forward written comments to Brian on behalf of the HCCA.

c. Other City of Ottawa Feedback Requests

https://engage.ottawa.ca/ for other feedback opportunities.
Solid Waste Master Plan: City is developing plans on how to deal with curbside garbage pickup. Everybody should be involved in first stage public feedback process. If there are any comments from anyone that would like to submit from HCCA contact Brian. Some of the recommendations are controversial. The City’s  strategy is focussed on ‘waste-diversion’. Initial outlook for landfill end of life was 23 years, and is now less than a decade. Requirements for new landfill is not very feasible. Incineration is still a consideration. Producers of goods will soon be responsible for using recycled materials for their packaging. If you have thoughts to share, send comments to Riley Brockington, and he will pass them to the city members on the Waste Management project.

d. Councillor Riley Brockington’s report

https://hunt-club.ca/meetings/2021-09-13_6d_councillors_report.pdf

  • Looking for options to help safety of the McCarthy curve (where yellow flashing light is). Next meeting would be a good time to present this issue and gather feedback

e. Support city motion: Phase out gas-powered power plants by 2030

John is looking for HCCA to support the City of Ottawa’s motion, and put pressure towards changes to alternative energy sources. This discussion and motion was deferred to an eVote through email. On September 17, 2021 the motion was passed 7 / 5.

For: John Reid, Sue McCarthy, Christine Johnson, Zivana Pavic, Sabrine Barakat, Jason Dubue, Kitty Dubue
Against: Brian Wade, Peter Foulger, Marilyn Koch, Abiosun Mosuro, Lynette Joseph-Sankey

An email of support was sent to the Environment Committee which approved the initiative unanimously.
