With local artist Claudia Salguero leading the way, this project was initiated, worked on and completed in 2017. Several local residents contributed to the design and painting of this colourful mural that now graces the outside walls of our community centre, fronting on McCarthy Rd and Paul Anka Drive. Again, without Councillor Brockington’s support, this project would not have happened.

Snow Moles Walkability Survey
This took place in the very icy winter of 2018, when a hardy group of 10 or so volunteers set out on walks throughout Hunt Club to report on sidewalk conditions and to identify a list of issues that needed to be addressed by the City to help make our community safer. We all met at the community centre, identified routes to cover, then in pairs, set out to do so. The report was sent to the City and all issues of concern were promptly rectified.
Library Services
The Hunt Club Community Association and the Riverside Park Community Association struck a joint committee in January 2019 with the mandate to strategize on action plans to maintain and enhance library services for our residents. Since then, we have successfully lobbied for and obtained signage for our community centre that advertises library services inside, five Ottawa Public Library programs offered at our community centre and participation of the OPL at our annual festivals. We are working hard at lobbying for more equitable library services in our community, a definite asset to help maintain and increase property values, and for stimulating healthy community practices.
Paul Landry Park Playground Equipment
Lobbying for this project began in 2015, with public meetings where local residents viewed drawings of, then identified their preferred model and location for the play structure in Paul Landry Park. Councillor Brockington championed this project and ‘made it happen’. Since its installation in 2018, countless neighbourhood children enjoy it daily from May to November each year.
Hunt Club: My Community Newsletter
This quarterly publication started in 2013 with the intent of knitting together a tighter community through shared stories and information from our community. It was initially delivered by a cadre of dedicated volunteers to 3,000 households and businesses in Hunt Club. The cost to produce this paper is largely covered by the fees for advertisements. June 2020 saw the last hard copy of this publication, as we will be going 100% online hereon. This is an environmental move to reduce use of paper. It also solves the issue of the time and energy required to sort, collate, then make deliveries to all volunteers so that they can then do their routes. This is a community driven news sharing venue and we always welcome and count on you to step forward to offer a written piece for this publication.
Canadian Pacific Women’s Open Golf Tournament – Clean Up Crew
In August 2017 HCCA volunteers provided their time and energy as members of the clean up crew whose duty it was to keep the grounds neat and tidy throughout the tournament. This was in partnership with Ecology Ottawa.
Paul Landry Park
The Hunt Club Community Association officially adopted Paul Landry Park in 2012 (located at 3345 Uplands Dr, in behind the Metro and Shoppers Drug Mart’s Hunt Club Centre, and adjacent to the Quarry Co-Op II, Shearwater Ct and Gilboa Place). A massive clean up of the park was done by volunteers over the next two years. Since then, annual official Spring and Fall ‘Cleaning the Capital’ campaigns are carried out in this park, along with informal litter pick ups throughout the year.
A group of ‘Park Angels’ is particularly diligent in beautifying the park with gardening efforts, art installations, signage and clearing of debris. Currently an active campaign is underway to educate those responsible for sullying our park by leaving their dogs’ poop all over pathways and other areas used by the public in our park.
